There is no single “official” average, but across the modern publishing industry there are well-established norms. Here’s what a typical book published today looks like.

📖 Average word count (modern publishing)

Across all adult books, the average full-length book is roughly:

  • 70,000–90,000 words

That range covers most commercially published titles.

📄 Average page count

Using standard trade paperback formatting (≈250–300 words per page):

  • 250–350 pages is typical

  • The most common range is 280–320 pages

Barringer Publishing has been publishing superb books of all genres for 18 years.
