Major publishers (Big Five):

 Effectively 0%

The Big Five do not accept unsolicited manuscripts. If you don’t have an agent, your submission is automatically rejected—often unread.


Other Traditional Publishers:

 Roughly 1–3% chance

Some accept direct submissions during limited windows, but competition is intense and they still strongly favor agented work.


Agents take in 1-2%, then pitch to the traditional publishing houses.


This is why so many authors explore hybrid publishing, like Barringer Publishing, after facing repeated rejections—even with strong books.
